At the invitation of the Chairman, David Barniville SC, US Ambassador to Ireland Kevin O’Malley visited the Law Library on Wednesday 14 January 2015. A distinguished trial lawyer from St. Louis, Missouri with Irish parents, the Ambassador was nominated by President Barack Obama on 5 June 2014. Mr. O’Malley presented his credentials to the President of Ireland, Michael D. Higgins, on 8 October 2014 and has been in office since then.
He was given a tour of the Four Courts, the Law Library, the Archive display in the Distillery Building and Dublin Dispute Resolution Centre (DDRC) by the Chairman and key members of staff of the Bar Council and met with the President of the Court of Appeal, Mr Justice Sean Ryan, and the President of the High Court, Mr Justice Nicholas Kearns of the High Court, along with various members of the Bar Council and former Chairmen. On behalf of the Bar, the Chairman presented the recently launched book “Law and Government: a tribute to Rory Brady” and a print of the Round Hall to the Ambassador and warmly welcomed him as a trial lawyer (and Fellow of the American College of Trial Lawyers) to the home of trial lawyers in Ireland. The Ambassador responded by thanking the Bar Council for the invitation and tour and asking that he be invited back again!
