Bar Council to pilot internship programme as an immersive introduction to life as a barrister
The Bar of Ireland is delighted to announce the launch of its pilot internship programme running the 23rd of June to 3rd July 2025. This unique opportunity is open to all law students who are passionate about pursuing a legal career at the Bar.
The programme invites applications from students currently enrolled in law schools that offer degrees approved for admission to the Barrister-at-Law degree. Each participating university or institution can nominate two students in their penultimate or final year of their programme.
Selected students will embark on a two-week internship starting Monday, 23rd June 2025, with activities scheduled from Monday to Thursday each week. The programme combines practical shadowing of barristers with skill-building activities in legal research, advocacy, and alternative dispute resolution.
Additionally, interns will have the opportunity to participate in social events, fostering connections with professionals in the field. Law schools will make direct contact with students on eligible programmes to invite expressions of interest. Each law school will then nominate two students to submit applications for final shortlisting.
Successful candidates will be informed by Tuesday, 15th April.
Students nominated by law schools who are unsuccessful in their application will still have the opportunity to attend an open day at The Bar of Ireland in July 2025.
