For the first time, the Bar of Ireland will attend as exhibitor at the National Ploughing Championships in Ratheniska, County Laois, welcoming 300,000 visitors to Europe’s largest outdoor event.
The National Ploughing Championships, renowned as Europe’s largest outdoor event, attracts approximately 80,000 visitors each day, with a total attendance nearing 300,000 over the three-day event. The Bar of Ireland welcomes the opportunity to connect with a diverse audience including representatives from the world of agriculture, business and civil service. In addition, a key focus of The Bar’s attendance will be directed towards young students and those considering a career in law.

With over 1,700 exhibitors covering sectors such as livestock, machinery, construction, agri-business, forestry, sustainability, information technology, and STEM education, the National Ploughing Championships offers a prime platform for The Bar to highlight the expertise available within the Law Library, the advantages of Alternative Dispute Resolution (ADR) and arbitration services and our Direct Professional Access Scheme
University Outreach – Your Path to the Bar
The Bar’s presence at the event also provides a unique opportunity to engage with students who are interested in pursuing a career in law. As future leaders in various fields, students attending the ploughing can gain valuable insights into the path to becoming a barrister, including the educational requirements, training, and the dynamic nature of the profession.
Members will be on hand to discuss the various stages of legal education, from undergraduate studies to professional training at the King’s Inns. They will also offer guidance on what it takes to succeed as a barrister, sharing personal experiences and highlighting the rewarding aspects of a career in law.
