The Bar of Ireland hosted The Four Jurisdictions Conference in Dublin on Friday 5th, Saturday 6th and Sunday 7th May 2017.
The Bar of Ireland welcomed members of The Bar of Northern Ireland, Faculty of Advocates, The Bar of England and Wales, Middle temple and their Judiciary for a weekend of networking and discussion between the four jurisdictions.
The weekend’s events commenced with a welcome reception and dinner hosted by Paul McGarry SC, Chairman Council of The Bar of Ireland in the Kildare Street and University Club.
On Saturday Proceedings opened with 110 delegates attending the Dublin Dispute Resolution Centre for a conference addressing four key areas:
1. Free Movement within the Four Jurisdictions post Brexit; Can or will free movement or the common travel area survive?
2. Stress induced psychological injuries in the workplace; when is an employer liable?
3. Divergence of Systems: Discovery Vs Disclosure – Burdens and Benefits- How do we strike a fair balance?
4. Freedom of Expression – no longer an unbending individual freedom?
Following the conference delegates and guests attend a reception and dinner hosted by Chief Justice, Mrs Justice Susan Denham in The Honorable Society of King’s.
The weekend’s events concluded on a beautiful day at the National Museum of Ireland Collins Barracks. Delegates enjoyed an illuminating lecture by Mr. Justice Donal O’Donnell on the Asgard & the 1914 Howth Gun Running followed with access to The Asgard exhibition.
