Paul McGarry SC has been elected as the new Chairman of the Council of The Bar of Ireland.

His election was confirmed Friday 15th July following a ballot of the members of the Council of The Bar of Ireland.
Paul McGarry SC was called to the Bar in 1996 and appointed Senior Counsel in 2010. He is a graduate of University College Dublin, having graduated with a Bachelor of Civil Law (BCL) in 1991 and LLM in European Law in 1992. He primarily practices in the area of public, commercial and European law.
Paul is originally from Belmullet in Co Mayo and currently lives in Dublin with his wife Olya and their two sons.
He succeeds David Barniville SC in the position, who has been Chairman since 2014.
Commenting after his election, Mr McGarry said; “I am humbled and honoured to have been elected to the role of Chairman by the members of the Council of The Bar of Ireland. I look forward to working with them, and the wider membership of The Bar of Ireland, in the years ahead.
