4th Dublin Vis Pre Moot to be held in association with the Dublin Dispute Resolution Centre, the Bar of Ireland, and Arbitration Ireland

24 February 2023

The 30th Willem C. Vis International Commercial Arbitration Moot will be held from 31st March – 7th April 2023. Nearly 400 teams from all over the world will meet in Vienna; the first in-person version of the event since the 26th edition in 2019.

In anticipation of the Competition, there will be various preparatory competitions held globally to prepare students for the Moot.

The Dublin Vis Pre Moot will take place from 3rd – 5th March 2023. Six teams will partake in-person in the hearing rooms in the Dublin Dispute Resolution Centre. There will be two Irish teams represented at the Pre-Moot: University College Dublin and University of Galway.

The Willem C. Vis International Commercial Arbitration Moot promotes the use and understanding of arbitration and encourages students to engage with it at a practical level. There is a large ‘Vis’ community internationally and there is a Moot Alumni Association which encourages the arbitration network to grow and support one another.

This year’s problem is a topical issue on the use of drones. The procedural questions look at whether the arbitration agreement was validly entered and thus, whether the tribunal has jurisdiction. If the tribunal does have jurisdiction, should the tribunal stay or alternatively bifurcate the proceedings. The substantive matters look to whether the CISG applies to the contract and if so, can the domestic contract law be applied.

This year’s Dublin Vis Pre-Moot is organised by Megan Fanning (Eversheds Sutherland) and is being sponsored by the Dublin Dispute Resolution Centre, the Bar of Ireland, and Arbitration Ireland.
