Biography
Paul D Maier is a barrister specialising in the law of work, labour and employment. He is a member of the Law Library in Dublin, Ireland, having been called to the Bar in 2022. He is Treasurer of the Employment Bar Association.
Paul appears on behalf of employers and employees at all levels of the Courts, and before the Labour Court and Workplace Relations Commission. He is a qualified arbitrator and is commissioned to lead independent investigations and disciplinary procedures for organisations. He is a member of the Employment Law Association of Ireland, the Health and Safety Lawyer’s Association of Ireland, the Professional, Regulatory and Disciplinary Bar Association, the EU Bar Association, and the Corporate & Insolvency Bar Association.
In addition to his practice before the courts, Paul is committed to teaching and publication. His introductory course on employment law with Progressive College is forthcoming, and he is an award-winning presenter to Ireland’s leading universities and law firms. He is a tutor at the UCD Sutherland School of Law, where he has taught the law of torts, contract law, company law, and EU economic law. His writing has been published in the Irish Employment Law Journal, the Industrial Relations News, the King’s Inns Law Review and in Viewpoints, the Bar of Ireland’s online publication. He is a case reporter for the Employment Law Reports, the Irish Law Reports Monthly, and for Legal Island.
In his first year of practice, Paul devilled with Desmond Ryan BL. He was admitted to the degree of Barrister-at-Law by the King’s Inns in 2022 and was awarded the Diploma in Legal Studies with honours by the King’s Inns in 2020. He received the Professional Diploma in Arbitration with merit from UCD in 2021. Prior to his legal practice, Paul served as a national industrial relations official with the Irish Medical Organisation from 2015 – 2021, representing primarily non-consultant hospital doctors (NCHDs).
